Victorian Christmas - Pride and Pedigree and Puppy Love program

Saturday, November 21, 2015 / 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

The theme “Pride & Pedigree” highlights the change in the relationship between animals and their owners from working livestock to adored family pets during the Victorian Era. Pets were valued for companionship and prized for their appearance instead of the labor they performed. This era saw a shift in the pet industry through the breeding of pure-breeds and the establishment of kennel clubs. It was also the beginning of animal rights through organizations like the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The library will host a Puppy Love therapy dog visit at 11 a.m. where children can read to the animals or just visit with them.

A selection of dog books and movies will be available for checkout, too.
